The Nigerian military is said to be responsible 90% of oil theft in the Niger Delta region.

The damning report was by Alhaji Asari Dokubo, ex-militant leader, after meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House, Abuja, on Friday.

Asari insisted more than 90% of oil stolen in the Niger Delta are currently perpetrated by top military officers especially from the Nigerian Army and Navy.

He told reporters that he had assured the president that there would be no more incidents of oil theft and vandalization in the oil-rich Niger Delta region.

Dokubo is one of the supporters of the president during the presidential campaigns and even after Tinubu’s victory at the polls.

Although the agenda of the meeting is not made public, it is believed that meeting Dokubo is likely to be part of the president’s ongoing consultations with opinion leaders from the Niger Delta part of the country.

President Tinubu had, during the week, met with some other key figures from the region, including former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chief Timi Alaibe, and former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA). Dr Dakuku Peterside.
