The All Progressives Congress (APC) has debunked allegations by the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, that its spokesperson, Felix Morka, threatened his life.

Obi had addressed a press conference on Thursday, the first day of the new year, where he said he was worried about the situation in Nigeria under President Tinubu’s administration.

However, Morka in an interview with Arise News stated that, “Peter Obi has crossed the line so many times and has it coming to him whatever he gets.”

But Morka, APC’s National Publicity Secretary, in a statement, described Obi’s claim as malicious and false, accusing Obi of fabricating the allegation to attract public sympathy and stoke political tensions.

Morka said his comments referred solely to Obi’s political conduct and criticisms, not to any physical threat.

According to him, “Nothing in that statement constitutes or suggests a threat to Obi or anyone else.

“Obi must stop misleading Nigerians with false narratives and start offering constructive criticism based on facts.”

Morka accused Obi of weaponizing misinformation, saying Obi often incites hostility against opposing views and tolerates online harassment by his supporters.

He said Obi’s followers have frequently bullied and issued threats against political opponents, including elder statesmen.

Consequently, the APC wants Obi to withdraw his accusations and issue a public apology, and warned that legal options would be explored to defend Morka’s reputation if Obi failed to retract the claims.
