APC Chieftain Nwosu Defends Tinubu’s Second-Term Bid, Condemns Atiku for Not Respecting Power Shift

A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ugwumba Uche Nwosu, has criticized the coalition of opposition politicians opposing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid, calling it unfair and unjustified.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Saturday, Nwosu argued that Tinubu deserves a second term based on the longstanding power rotation agreement between Nigeria’s northern and southern regions.
He urged opposition leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, to prioritize national unity by allowing Tinubu to complete his two-term tenure, which ends in 2031.
Nwosu, a former Imo State gubernatorial aspirant, emphasized that it is too early to assess Tinubu’s administration, noting its achievements in socioeconomic and infrastructural development despite being only two years in office.
He dismissed concerns about Nigeria becoming a one-party state ahead of the 2027 elections, pointing out that opposition parties like the PDP, Labour Party, and APGA still hold governorship and legislative positions across the country.
Addressing the nation’s security challenges, Nwosu acknowledged that the crisis predates Tinubu’s administration and called for enhanced community policing, involving traditional rulers, youths, and stakeholders to improve safety in all 774 local government areas.
However, he opposed calls for citizens to arm themselves, warning that such a move could lead to chaos and anarchy.
