The results of the Bayelsa State governorship election was postponed to today, Monday.

The collation had started on Sunday, November 12, 2023, but was adjourned till Monday, November 13, 2023, at noon.

The commission’s head of voter education and publicity in Bayelsa State, Wilfred Igofah, said this was due to “challenges in the collation of results in Brass and Southern Ijaw” local government areas.

However, before the decision was taken, results from six of the eight local government areas in the state were already presented, leaving two local government areas, Brass and Southern Ijaw, which were yet to compile their results.

The six local government areas which results were collated and presented were: Kolokuma/Opokuma, Ogbia, Yenegoa, Sagbama, Nembe, and Ekeremor.

In five of these LGAs, the incumbent governor, Douye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led, while Timipre Sylva, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, took the lead in only one.

Based on the results from the six LGAs declared, Governor Diri, who is seeking reelection, polled 137,909 votes from the six LGAs so far declared.

Sylva, the APC candidate who was a former governor of Bayelsa State, is seeking to reclaim his former position.
