Andre Onana helps Manchester United land African star

Onana has struggled to provide confidence between the sticks, being United’s first-choice goalkeeper for their two worst season of the Premier League era.
This season, his questionable and problematic performances led him to lead the list of Premier League goalkeepers in number of mistakes made directly resulting in a goal being conceded.
As such, his future at Old Trafford has been on the rocks for some time now, with the likes of Emiliano Martinez of Aston Villa being linked as his successor.
However, he has played a key role of late in being a lure for one of United’s upcoming signings.
Manchester Evening News has reported that Onana has been advising his fellow countryman Bryan Mbeumo to move to Old Trafford.
The pair represent Cameroon together, and are currently second in Group D for the Africa Qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
However, the pair weren’t on duty for Cameroon’s international friendlies earlier this month as the African side faced Uganda and Equatorial Guinea.
It’s understood that Andre Onana has been using his links with the attacker to help coax Mbeumo to join United and secure their second major signing of the summer.
Whilst personal terms have reportedly been agreed between Manchester United and Bryan Mbeumo, a deal remains to be made with Brentford over his transfer fee.
The Red Devils had their first bid of £55 million rejected by Brentford with a second of £60 million reportedly being on the table.
However, Tottenham Hotspur have made a move to hijack the deal, offering £70 million to try and steal the talented attacker and bring him to Spurs alongside former Brentford manager Thomas Frank.
Thankfully for United, despite Spurs’ last minute attempts, Mbeumo is still setting his heart on a move to the Theatre of Dreams.
