Former Sporting Lisbon and Barcelona FC winger Emmanuel Amuneke is making moves to replace outgoing Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro.

This was made known in a post shared on the official X handle of former BBC reporter and current writer for the Guardian, Osasu Obayiuwana.

According to him, the former African Footballer of the Year has thrown his hat in the ring to replace Peseiro by declaring his interest for the vacant position.

“1994 @CAF_Online #AFOTY .@AmunekeEmma9496, the former @ZSCOfficial, @FCBarcelona and @NGSuperEagles player, has confirmed to me that he has put himself in the running to be the next manager of #Nigeria’s national team,” he wrote on X.

The NFF is looking for a new manager to take over as Super Eagles coach after Peseiro’s contract expired on the final day of February, with both parties failing to reach an agreement on improved wages for the coach who led Nigeria to the AFCON 2023 final.

It was learnt that Peseiro’s representatives received an enhanced offer from the Nigerian football body. Despite this, the coach wanted $120,000 in compensation, arguing that the NFF’s $50,000 monthly salary was insufficient and went against the previous offer of $80,000, which the coach thought was a fair wage.
