Alleged N1.2bn fraud that made Tinubu suspend REA CEO, directors

President Bola Tinubu has given his approval for the indefinite suspension of Ahmad Salihijo Ahmad, the Managing Director/CEO of Rural Electrification Agency (REA), and three executive directors.

The suspension follows a thorough investigation into the agency’s financial activities, revealing alleged fraudulent mis-expenditure amounting to over N1.2 billion over the past two years.

Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, issued a statement outlining the developments.

The president simultaneously appointed Abba Abubakar Aliyu as the acting Managing Director/CEO and announced other key appointments within the agency, emphasizing a commitment to transparency and accountability.

The suspended officials, including Olaniyi Alaba Netufo, Barka Sajou, and Sa’adatu Balgore, are subject to a wider investigation into their alleged involvement in the financial misconduct.

Anti-graft agencies have reportedly recovered some of the misappropriated funds.

President Tinubu urged the newly appointed officials to uphold the highest standards of transparency and accountability in fulfilling their roles.

He reiterated his dedication to prioritizing the aspirations of Nigerians for good governance and superior service delivery over individual interests entrusted with critical responsibilities.
