Akwa Ibom Stadium only gets CAF’s approval to host AFCON qualifiers

Akwa Ibom International Stadium is the only one approved for hosting the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in June this year.
An official communiqué sent out on Monday confirmed this.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF), which gave the approval, stated that the list, which included 48 countries, is “specific for the group stage qualifiers on Matchday 5”.
Conseqent upon this approv, it means the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja is banned.
CAF now sees that Nigeria has only one stadium fit enough to host elite CAF/FIFA games.
Jose Peseiro’s side is currently on top of Group A with nine points from four games.
A draw against Sierra Leone in their next fixture will be enough to seal a place in Cote d’Ivoire 2023.
