Gov Oyebanji of Ekiti State
Afenifere endorses Oyebanji, Tinubu for Second Term, lauds President’s infrastructure drive in Ekiti
Governor thanks President for fulfilling promises, says Tinubu has delivered more than pledged to the state
Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the construction and rehabilitation of multiple federal roads across the state, describing the projects as transformative for both the local economy and the broader Southwest region.
The Governor made the remarks on Tuesday while hosting leaders of the Ekiti State chapter of Afenifere, the Pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, led by Chairman Elder Yemi Alade, at his office. He noted that over the past three and a half years, Ekiti has received far more than what the President initially promised.
According to Oyebanji, the road projects—once completed—will serve as catalysts for economic expansion, particularly as several of them connect Ekiti with neighbouring states such as Ondo and Osun.
The visit also saw the Afenifere leaders reaffirm their endorsement of both President Tinubu and Governor Oyebanji for re-election, citing what they described as purposeful governance and sustained support for the people.
Expressing gratitude for the group’s backing of the President, Oyebanji said Tinubu had more than lived up to his commitments to Ekiti State, resulting in an unprecedented wave of infrastructure development.
“I want to appreciate the President for his support for Ekiti, and I thank you for endorsing his re-election. Mr. President has fulfilled more than he promised us,” Oyebanji stated.
“Today, the journey from Akure to Ado-Ekiti takes just 35 minutes. He made that possible. With his support, we completed the airport. With his support, we rehabilitated the Ado-Iworoko-Ifaki federal road. He has also approved the construction of the road from the Osun State border to Aramoko—a N153 billion contract because it will be concrete pavement.
“Mr. President has further directed and approved the reconstruction of the Aramoko-Ijero-Ido road, as well as the Omuo-Ikole-Ifaki road. Soon, work will begin on linking us to the Osogbo rail line. When you add all these up, he has done exceedingly well for us.”
The Governor, however, expressed concern over what he termed misplaced criticism from some quarters. “Unfortunately, some of our children—perhaps out of ignorance or for selfish gain—still engage in actions that portray Ekiti as ungrateful. We must caution such people. I am not against politics, but we must not play politics with facts.”
Describing Afenifere as the guardian of Yoruba traditions and values, Oyebanji thanked the group for its endorsement and pledged to continue implementing policies that enhance the socio-economic well-being of Ekiti residents.
“On behalf of myself and Mr. President, I thank you for this open endorsement. Afenifere is the custodian of our values—political and cultural. For you to openly declare your support is not something I take for granted. This endorsement is based on facts, and I know you examined the projects thoroughly. That is what sets Afenifere apart—you are meticulous, impartial, and you speak the truth.”
The Governor also reaffirmed his commitment to party supremacy, noting that he would continue to consult the party on key decisions, particularly political appointments.
Earlier, Elder Yemi Alade explained the group’s endorsement of Governor Oyebanji, citing what he described as unprecedented achievements under the shared prosperity agenda of the administration.
He listed these achievements to include sound economic policies, massive infrastructural development, a robust agricultural programme, regular payment of salaries and pensions, and enhanced youth and women empowerment.
“Based on these and convinced beyond reasonable doubt that greater achievements will follow a second term, Egbe Afenifere has resolved to organise this endorsement as a pacesetting initiative,” Alade said.
“The Ekiti State chapter of Egbe Afenifere assures Your Excellency of our continued support, cooperation, and unwavering loyalty before, during, and after the forthcoming election. We stand with you and will work devotedly for your victory. We also prayerfully wish President Bola Ahmed Tinubu a resounding victory in 2027 for a second term that will move Nigeria forward.”
Alade also distanced the group from what he described as impostors parading themselves as Afenifere in Ekiti. “We dissociate ourselves from that fake, irresponsible group. They are a condemned collection of impostors and strange bedfellows. Ours is a genuine, purposeful, and progressive group. We remain solidly with Your Excellency.”
