ADC criticizes EFCC, claims revocation of Malami’s bail is politically motivated

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly condemned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for revoking the bail granted to former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.

The party accuses the anti-graft agency of engaging in partisan politics rather than impartial law enforcement.

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC warned that weaponizing investigations against opposition figures undermines the genuine fight against corruption and turns agencies into tools for suppressing dissent.

The party argued that available evidence shows Malami did not violate any legal conditions of his initial bail. It suggested the revocation appears directly linked to his attendance at a political rally in Kebbi State, where he has gubernatorial ambitions, creating an “inexorable impression” the action aims to curtail his politics.

“While the ADC fully supports holding public officers accountable, we are deeply concerned that the EFCC’s actions portray it as a gladiator in the political arena, not an impartial warrior against corruption,” the statement read.

The party further charged that by effectively barring a citizen from political activity, the EFCC is arrogating to itself unconstitutional powers. It concluded that restricting Malami specifically to Kebbi State reveals an agenda to cripple his political ambition, not to pursue justice.
