Abuja residents raid, loot NEMA warehouse

Some residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, Sunday morning, were said to have looted a warehouse owned by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) over the current economic hardship in the country.

The looted NEMA warehouse is located in the Karimo, Phase 3 Region of the FCT area of Abuja.

The looting occurred as the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, suspended its two-day nationwide protests after it started on Tuesday over the ongoing hardships, especially the high cost of living in the country.

Dozens of Abuja residents were said to have forcefully raided the warehouse and carted away foodstuffs and other items from the place.

The spokesperson of the FCT Police command, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident, saying the situation has been brought under control with policemen deployed to the area to disperse these looters.

There current hardships in the country have ignited protests in some parts of the country, including Lagos, Ibadan in Oyo State, Edo State, Kano State, Ekiti State, and others.

In a similar incident, only two weeks ago, some residents of Ankpa community in Kogi State, had illegally hijacked a Dangote truck fully loaded with bags of cement, looting the goods.
