U.S. embassy announces new $1bn Coca-Cola investment in Nigeria

The United States Embassy in Nigeria has announced that The Coca-Cola Company plans to invest an additional $1 billion into its Nigerian operations. This new commitment is set to expand production, strengthen supply chains, and enhance nationwide workforce training.

Highlighting the role of American companies in fostering bilateral trade, the Embassy noted that Coca-Cola has already invested $1.5 billion in Nigeria over the past decade. It stated that “US–Nigeria bilateral trade has been a powerful engine for economic growth, job creation and generational partnerships,” with Coca-Cola being a standout contributor.

The investment underscores continued confidence by U.S. multinationals in Nigeria’s long-term economic prospects. Coca-Cola operates in Nigeria through the Coca-Cola System, which includes Coca-Cola Nigeria Limited and its long-standing bottling partner, the Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC). The system has been a major fixture in Nigeria’s manufacturing, logistics, and retail sectors for 75 years.

Company executives have consistently described Nigeria as a strategic and central market within Africa, citing its large population and growing consumer base as key drivers for long-term growth.
