ADC United, Coalition Tells Datti Baba-Ahmed, Insists Obi Committed

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has stated that recent critical comments from Labour Party’s 2023 vice-presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, represent his personal views and do not reflect the consensus of the broader opposition coalition.

This response comes after Baba-Ahmed, in a television interview, accused the ADC-led coalition of “misleading Nigerians” and announced his intention to run alongside Peter Obi in the 2027 elections.

In a statement released on Saturday, the ADC’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Jackie Wayas, expressed respect for Baba-Ahmed while firmly clarifying the coalition’s position. She emphasized that the alliance is a collective endeavor involving multiple prominent political leaders and parties, not a vehicle for any single individual.

Wayas revealed that the coalition was formed following extensive consultations with key figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Kaduna governor Nasir el-Rufai, and Peter Obi himself. She stated that Obi has already committed to the coalition and confirmed that the ADC will be the chosen platform for the 2027 presidential election.

Citing a declaration made by Obi on July 3, 2025, Wayas reiterated the coalition’s shared goal: to provide Nigeria with competent and compassionate leadership. She called for unity within the opposition, urging Nigerians to rally behind the ADC to “rescue the nation.”
