FG appoints new DG, management for NTA

The Federal Government has appointed a new Director-General and management team for the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).

This doused speculations over a leadership shake-up at the NTA.

A statement by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF, confirmed the appointments, including Director-General – Rotimi Pedro (South-West);

Executive Director, Marketing -Karimah Bello (North-West);

Executive Director, News – Stella Din Jacob (North-Central); and

Managing Director, NTA Enterprises Limited – Sophia Essahmed (North-East).

President Bola Tinubu charged the new appointees to work as a team in repositioning and revitalizing NTA by introducing innovative approaches that will strengthen the agency’s service delivery and relevance in the evolving media landscape.

The announcement followed widespread reports of changes at the NTA, after an unverified report circulated claiming that Dembos and his management team had been removed.

At the time, both Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga and Minister of Information Mohammed Idris Malagi declined to confirm the shake-up, fuelling uncertainty among staff and the public.

Salihu Abdulhamid Dembos, who was appointed in October 2023, has now been officially replaced by Pedro, a Lagos-based sports entertainment executive with extensive media and broadcasting experience.

The new appointees will succeed the executive directors named in September 2024.

The confirmation of the new management underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to overhauling federal media institutions and reflects his broader agenda of infusing innovation into public communication platforms.
