Nigeria Tracks, Vows to Prosecute Terror Financiers at Home, Abroad – CDS

Nigerian security forces are actively identifying and pursuing individuals who finance terrorism within the country and across international networks, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Christopher Musa confirmed.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, General Musa detailed the complexity of the operation, citing legal challenges and the global nature of terror funding.

He explained that while local operatives move money through methods like daily remittances from motorcycle businesses, some funds originate from abroad, requiring international cooperation.

General Musa praised the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) for its critical role in uncovering these financial trails, confirming that arrests have been made.

He stated that the Attorney-General and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, are deeply involved in the effort.

The CDS also confirmed that agencies like the DSS and NIA are monitoring potential political actors who may be fueling insecurity to undermine the government.

While work is ongoing to identify them, he emphasized the need for judicial reforms, including special courts and harsher punishments, to expedite terrorism prosecutions.
