The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has called for further investigations into a recent incident involving Ibom Air, summoning both the cabin crew member, Juliana Edward, and the passenger, Comfort Emmanson.
This was confirmed by the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, who stated he had personally spoken with Ms. Emmanson.
Both individuals have been invited to appear before the authority for a continued enquiry into the matter.
The NCAA also clarified a key point from initial reports, noting that the pilot did not call security upon landing in Lagos as the in-flight altercation appeared to have been resolved.
Emmanson, who reportedly used the restroom after landing, was the last passenger to disembark.
Achimugu reaffirmed the NCAA’s commitment to uncovering all facts related to the event.
Commenting on the broader context of such incidents, Senator Buhari Abdulfatai, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation, linked the rise in aviation misconduct to a general decline in discipline among passengers, airport staff, and crew members.
In response to growing concerns, the NCAA has issued a new directive mandating that all mobile phones be completely switched off during aircraft take-off and landing.
