President Tinubu orders National Flag to fly at half-mast as Buhari dies, VP Shettima to escort body home from London

In a solemn act of national tribute, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has instructed Vice President Kashim Shettima to travel to London to bring back the remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari, following his passing.

The directive comes as the nation grieves the loss of the former leader, whose death has plunged the country into mourning.

To honor Buhari’s legacy, President Tinubu also mandated that all national flags be flown at half-mast nationwide and at Nigerian diplomatic missions abroad, reflecting the country’s deep respect for the departed statesman.

“This gesture signifies our profound reverence for a leader who devoted his life to serving Nigeria,” President Tinubu remarked.

The Presidency is set to release further details on funeral arrangements and planned national tributes in the coming hours.

Late President Buhari led Nigeria as a civilian leader from 2015 to 2023 and earlier as military ruler from 1984 to 1985.
