Amaechi Quits APC, Slams Tinubu’s Leadership

Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has broken his silence on the recent political coalition unveiled in Abuja, likening it to a necessary “movement” for change.

Speaking on Nigeria’s worsening economic conditions, Amaechi declared, “Nigeria is completely destroyed. People can’t eat, they can’t afford food. Inflation is at its peak, and the federal government is more focused on hijacking elections than solving problems.”

Confirming his exit from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Amaechi stated, “I left APC last night. I warned them in writing not to invite me to any meetings because I refuse to be part of a system where corruption thrives.”

He also criticized President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, saying, “I never believed Tinubu was fit to govern Nigeria. Now, people are even wishing for Buhari’s return because under this administration, things have gotten worse. The dollar has skyrocketed from ₦460 to over ₦1,580—more than a 100% increase.”

Amaechi further condemned Tinubu’s approach, referencing the President’s controversial remark: “Tinubu said he’s not here to make Nigerians happy—that’s not governance.”

Asserting his political stance, Amaechi added, “I have the right to be ambitious, but I’m not overambitious. What Nigeria needs now is a movement, not just a party—one where the people take back power.”
