The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has confirmed the arrest of 26 suspects believed to be the masterminds behind the deadly attacks in Yelewata, Benue State, which claimed 47 lives.

Thhe IGP, who spoke at a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, disclosed that 28 individuals were initially apprehended, but two were later cleared after investigations revealed they were only used as decoys to capture the actual suspects.

He assured the public that security forces are actively pursuing other perpetrators involved in the violence.

Egbetokun said the police are not overwhelmed and are stepping up efforts to recover illegal light and small arms in circulation.

Additionally, border patrols have been intensified to curb the influx of irregular migrants into the country.

The IGP also confirmed that the arrested suspects, including 22 others linked to the murder of nine wedding-bound travelers in Jos, will soon face prosecution.
