The Federal Government has rejected a recent security advisory from the U.S. Embassy warning its personnel and their families against non-essential travel to military and government facilities in Abuja.

In a statement on Monday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, acknowledged the right of foreign missions to issue advisories but insisted that Nigeria’s capital remains secure for residents and visitors.

“Nigeria’s security agencies are working tirelessly to ensure the safety of all citizens and foreigners in the FCT and beyond,” the statement read. “Abuja’s security framework is proactive and has successfully detected, prevented, and neutralized threats.”

The government clarified that the U.S. advisory appeared to stem from general global security trends rather than any immediate danger in Abuja.

“We assure diplomatic missions, investors, and the public that there is no cause for alarm,” the statement emphasized. “Abuja remains one of the safest capitals in the world, and our security forces are on high alert to address any emerging risks.”

The minister urged citizens to go about their daily activities without fear but encouraged vigilance and prompt reporting of suspicious incidents to authorities.

The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining security and upholding Abuja’s reputation as a stable and protected city.
