LCCI Praises Tinubu’s Democracy Day Speech, Urges Sustained Economic Reforms

The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has commended President Bola Tinubu’s Democracy Day address, describing it as a bold and forward-looking blueprint for Nigeria’s economic future.

The chamber, however, called for consistent implementation of reforms to ensure tangible benefits for businesses and citizens.

In a statement signed by its Director-General, Dr. Chinyere Almona, the LCCI acknowledged the president’s focus on economic growth, security, and increased funding for education, healthcare, and infrastructure as key drivers for national development.

The LCCI urged the government to maintain clear and consistent communication on reforms to reduce uncertainty and build investor confidence.

– Business Support: The chamber recommended targeted interventions to ease production costs, particularly in energy, logistics, and regulatory compliance.

– Social Safety Nets: Expansion of welfare programs to cushion the impact of inflation and high living costs on vulnerable households.

– Sectoral Focus: Special attention for oil & gas, power, and agriculture —key sectors for job creation and infrastructure growth.

– MSME Support: Improved access to financing and markets for small businesses, which form the backbone of Nigeria’s economy.

– Stakeholder Collaboration: The LCCI emphasized the need for continuous dialogue between government, businesses, and labor unions to prevent unrest and ensure smooth policy implementation.

While applauding Tinubu’s vision, the LCCI stressed that democracy demands accountable governance and urged the administration to remain steadfast in executing its agenda.

“Democracy places a big responsibility on the government to provide credible and adaptive leadership,” the statement noted, calling for transparent progress tracking and inclusive consultations with the private sector.

As Nigeria marks 26 years of democracy, the business community remains cautiously optimistic, awaiting concrete actions to match the president’s promises.
