President Tinubu Hails New Alaafin of Oyo’s Coronation as Historic Moment for Nigeria, Yoruba

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has celebrated the coronation of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo, describing it as a landmark event for the Yoruba people and Nigeria as a whole.

Represented by the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, at the ceremony in Oyo, the President praised the new monarch’s ascension as a continuation of a rich cultural heritage and a unifying force for the Yoruba race. 

“This momentous occasion transcends Oyo Kingdom—it is a celebration for the entire Yoruba nation and Nigeria,” President Tinubu stated.

“The Alaafin throne embodies cultural pride, unity, and the enduring legacy of one of Africa’s greatest empires.” 

Addressing a gathering of prominent traditional rulers, including the Ooni of Ife, Oba Eniitan Ogunwusi, the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, the President highlighted the Alaafin’s role as a bridge between history and progress.

He honored the late Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III for fostering a cultural revival and strengthening ties with the Yoruba diaspora, particularly in Brazil and Cuba. 

Reaffirming his administration’s dedication to cultural preservation, President Tinubu noted that Oyo State remains pivotal to his Renewed Hope Agenda, with priorities in power, infrastructure, agriculture, education, and youth empowerment. 

“We are committed to empowering our youth through technology, entrepreneurship, and vocational training,” he said.

“Traditional institutions like the Alaafin’s throne are vital in promoting peace, cultural identity, and national development.” 

Calling on the people of Oyo to rally behind the new monarch, the President prayed for theAlaafin, “May your reign be long, prosperous, and guided by wisdom. May you elevate Oyo’s legacy and remain a pillar of hope for our nation.” 

The coronation attracted dignitaries from across Nigeria and beyond, heralding a new era for the ancient Oyo Kingdom.
