Breaking: Wike, Fubara, Ogoni leaders, others meet Tinubu in Abuja

How I Threatened to Sack Wike If FCT Policies Didn’t Favour APC – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu revealed on Sunday that he once warned Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), that he would be fired if his policies in Abuja did not benefit the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The president made the remark when Wike led a delegation of FCT residents to the State House for Eid-el-Fitr homage. Tinubu praised Wike’s performance, noting that the minister had revitalized abandoned projects and upgraded healthcare facilities in the capital.

He highlighted Wike’s achievements as the first southerner to hold the FCT ministerial position since 1999, calling it a testament to Nigeria’s diversity.

Recalling their discussion on exempting the FCT from the Treasury Single Account (TSA), Tinubu said: *“I asked him, ‘Would this give my party a chance to win elections in the FCT?’ I warned him, ‘If this tilts too much in your favour, you’ll lose your job.’ He replied, ‘Okay, we settle that, Oga.’”*

The president commended Wike’s ability to deliver results in the northern-dominated capital, stating that his success reflects national unity. He urged Nigerians to remain supportive of one another.

In response, Wike credited improved governance in Abuja to key reforms, including the FCT’s exemption from TSA, the appointment of permanent secretaries, and the creation of the FCT Civil Service Commission. He invited Tinubu to commission completed projects ahead of the administration’s second anniversary.

The minister also presented a Sallah greeting card to the president on behalf of the FCT administration.
