Former presidential spokesman, Reno Omokri, has revealed how the sexual harassment allegation leveled against him by Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, Senator representing Kogi Central, was resolved.

Akpoti-Uduaghan had accused Omokri of sexual harassment at the Presidential Villa in Abuja in 2014.

Recently, Akpoti-Uduaghan also accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment during an interview on Arise TV on Friday, February 28, 2025.

She claimed Akpabio made sexual advances toward her on December 8, 2023, while she was on assignment in Akwa Ibom State.

Omokri, who served as former President Goodluck Jonathan’s spokesman, stated that he has been inundated with calls from Nigerian media outlets seeking his comments on Akpoti-Uduaghan’s allegations against Akpabio, given his own experience with similar accusations.

However, in a statement on Saturday, March 1, Omokri vowed not to engage with multiple media outlets on the matter.

He explained: “I do not know if Senator Natasha Akpoti’s allegations against the Senate President are true, as I was not present during the alleged incident.

“However, I can attest to my own experience with her. In the past, Senator Akpoti accused me of sexually harassing her at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa during a reception for Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta’s visit to Nigeria between May 4 and May 7, 2014.”

Omokri refuted the allegations, stating that during those dates, he was in the United States as President Jonathan’s special envoy.

He provided evidence, including photographs with U.S. officials, a First Class British Airways ticket, and his passport, which confirmed his absence from Nigeria at the time. After he presented this evidence, Akpoti-Uduaghan deleted all traces of her accusations and a video she had posted insulting Omokri, his wife, and his newborn daughter.

Omokri further disclosed that a prominent individual from his ethnic group, the Itsekiri, reached out to a respected Christian clergyman to mediate the matter.

The mediator facilitated an out-of-court settlement, and Omokri decided to drop the issue after his name was cleared.

According to him, “That is the extent of my encounter with Senator Natasha Akpoti. I hope the media will now leave me alone, as I have no intention of granting interviews or getting involved in this matter. I have the utmost respect for the Senate and its leadership and believe a proper investigation should be conducted to determine the truth of the current allegations.”
