Senate President’s Wife, Ekaette Akpabio, Sues Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Over Defamation Claims

Ekaette Akpabio, the wife of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has initiated multiple lawsuits against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, following allegations of defamatory remarks.
The legal action comes after Akpoti-Uduaghan, during an interview on Arise TV last Friday, accused the Senate President of making sexual advances toward her at his office and residence in Akwa Ibom.
In response, Ekaette Akpabio dismissed the claims as “lies,” describing her husband as a disciplined man. She has since filed a fundamental rights suit at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, asserting that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s “scandalous and salacious” comments have caused her and her children significant “emotional and psychological abuse.”
In the suit, Ekaette seeks a court order to prevent Akpoti-Uduaghan from making further “spiteful” statements that violate her fundamental human rights.
She is also demanding N250 billion in exemplary, punitive, aggravated, and general damages for the alleged infringement of her rights. Additionally, she has requested that the court compel Akpoti-Uduaghan to issue a public apology in two national newspapers and pay N1 billion in punitive and exemplary damages for the reputational harm caused to her family.
The suit further seeks a perpetual injunction to restrain Akpoti-Uduaghan from making or spreading any defamatory statements against the Akpabio family. Ekaette emphasized that the Kogi senator’s comments have “damaged the reputation of the claimant and indeed her entire family, bringing them into disrepute and opprobrium.”
As of now, Senate President Godswill Akpabio has not publicly commented on Akpoti-Uduaghan’s allegations.
