Amusan Mourns Titan Of Democracy, Ayo Adebanjo

A former Ogun state House of Representatives, Hon. Jelili Kayode Amusan, has joined other eminent Nigeria to express his condolences over the demise of leader of Afenifere, Yorùbá Pan-African socio-cultural organisation, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, who died in his Lekki, Lagos residence on Friday, February 14, 2025.
Amusan, in a statement released by his media office on Friday evening, said the passing of the nanogenarian has left a vacuum that will be very difficult to fill, in Yorùbá region and Nigeria as whole.
“The demise of Yorùbá leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo has left a vacuum that will be very difficult to fill in a long time, on a diversity page of Nigerian history, Adebanjo was a hero for the people of the Southwest region of Nigeria. In the history page of the country, Pa Adebanjo’s name would ring a bell.
“Nigeria has lost a political leader whose decades of unwavering struggle for justice, democracy, and national unity have left an indelible mark on our nation’s history.
“As from the beginning of his political adventures, he was an Awoist, ardent follower, indeed, one of his favourite political actors and close confidant. He was among the titans who fought for the independence of our country.
“He believed in the unity of Nigeria, provided every other notable political leader shared the same sort of national identity and beliefs, in fact, he was a titan of democracy as well.
“Pa Adebanjo was a good leader of strong will and was trusted for his words by his own people. As a nationalist who fought for the emancipation of Nigerian citizens from colonial administration, he deserves a national burial and also by his own Southwest Yorùbá region.
“May the soul of Pa Adebanjo rest in perfect peace, Amin.”
