NNPCL dismisses claims Port-Harcourt Refinery shut down

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has dismissed claims that the recently rehabilitated Port Harcourt Refinery has ceased operations.
In a statement released in Abuja, Olufemi Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd., confirmed that the refinery is fully operational and that preparations are underway for product loading today, Saturday, December 21, 2024.
Soneye described the reports of the refinery’s shutdown as baseless and urged the public to disregard them, emphasizing that they are the fabrications of individuals aiming to create artificial fuel scarcity and exploit Nigerians.
He stated, “The attention of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has been drawn to media reports claiming that the Old Port Harcourt Refinery, re-streamed two months ago, has been shut down.
“We categorically state that these reports are entirely false. The refinery remains fully operational, as confirmed by former Group Managing Directors of NNPC during a recent inspection.
“Preparations for today’s loading operations are ongoing. We urge the public to ignore these unfounded reports, which are attempts by certain individuals to create panic and profiteer at the expense of Nigerians,” Soneye said.
