Professors at the University of Abuja are protesting the process of selecting a new vice-chancellor for the institution.

A Channels Television crew covering the demonstration faced harassment, with their bus vandalized by the university’s security operatives, who also detained the journalists for over an hour.

The university has been mired in controversy since July 1, following the exit of the former vice-chancellor, Abdul Rasheed Na’Allah.

The dispute centers on allegations that the newly constituted governing council, in collaboration with some staff members, is attempting to appoint Aisha Maikudi as vice-chancellor, despite claims that she does not meet the advertised qualifications for the position.
