Senate begins screening of ministerial nominees
The screening of seven ministerial nominees has finally started at the Senate on Wednesday.
The ministerial nominees’ name were appointed a week ago on Wednesday by President Bola Tinubu.
The screening is being held at the Senate on Wednesday after it was postponed on Tuesday.
First to be screened was Nentawe Yilwatda, who is the mimisterial nominee appointed to replace Betta Edu as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.
Other nominees are: Muhammadu Dingyadi, for the Ministry of Labour & Employment; Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, for the Ministry of State, Foreign Affairs; Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, for the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment; Idi Mukhtar Maiha, for the Ministry of Livestock Development; Yusuf Ata, for the Ministry of State, Housing, and Urban Development; and Dr. Suwaiba Ahmad, for the Ministry of State, Education.
The scheduled screening of the new ministerial nominees by the Senate for Monday was shifted to Tuesday, Octiber 30, 2024.
This followed the Senate’s routine practice of ensuring that all necessary paperwork and preliminary checks are completed before the nominees are invited for screening.
According to a statement, titled “Postponement of Ministerial Screening,” “The scheduled screening of ministerial nominees has been postponed by the Senate. This is to allow all nominees to conclude all aspects of documentation and pre-screening exercises. The screening has been rescheduled for Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at 12noon prompt. We appreciate your understanding and patience.”
