The bombing, the second time in its wake, came just hours before the local government election in the state.

Indications in the video footage shared on social media, showed that the blast might have been caused by dynamite, as significant damage was caused to the APC secretariat.

Specifically, the secretariat’s main gate and security post were destroyed, along with parts of a nearby building.

Chief Tony Okocha, the caretaker committee chairman of the APC in Rivers State, confirmed the incident.

He alleged that supporters of Governor Siminalayi Fubara were behind the attack.

Okocha, wrote on social media, “In the early hours of Saturday, pro-Fubara civilian soldiers detonated dynamites at our office. The second attempt to set it ablaze was foiled as the security team on-site quickly extinguished the fire.”

However, the attack has heightened tension ahead of the local government elections, as political violence and security concerns continue to run high over the process poll.

Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the incident, and investigations are expected to follow.
