The coach of English Premier League side, Newcastle United, Eddie Howe, has dismissed any link to the England job following the resignation of Gareth Southgate.

Southgate, appointed in 2016, quit on Tuesday after England’s 2-1 defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 final.

Howe has, however, been linked to the top
job, but Newcastle CEO, Darren Eales, has consustently stated that the club is determined to keep him.

The coach spoke with Daily Mail North-East Football & England Correspondent, Craig Hope, saying he is committed to Newcastle but it has to be right for him.

According to him, “I absolutely want to stay at Newcastle but it has to be right for me and the club.

“There’s absolutely no point in me saying I’m happy staying if the dynamic isn’t right.”

Also via @CraigHope_DM, he stated: “I absolutely love the club. I love the supporters. I love where I am at in my career. There is no better place for me to be. That is how I feel.”

Southgate has stepped down as coach of England days after losing out to Spain in the EURO 2024 final.

In the tournament final last Sunday, Spain defeated England 2-1, shattering a 58-year curse for the team.

Defeat meant England had not lifted a major title since 1966 and had not triumphed in consecutive European tournament finals.

The 53-year-old Southgate led England to 102 victories over his eight years in command, and his contract was about to expire later this year.
