Finidi George is new Rivers United coach after exit from Super Eagles

Former Nigerian football international Finidi George is the new coach of NPFL side, Rivers United.
Finidi signed for Rivers United after his controversial exit as Super Eagles coach.
The Nigerian international racked up 62 caps during his time with the Super Eagles. His primary goal is to assist Rivers United earn a continental ticket from the domestic league for the upcoming season.
The 53-year-old, who quit the national squad last month, agreed to a two-year deal in principle with the former winners of the Nigerian football championship.
According to him, “I am honoured to have this opportunity, and I thank the Sports Commissioner, the General Manager, and the supporters for their confidence in me. I am committed to working hard and making the team win.
“The target set is to win games and at least finish on the continent next season.”
Writing in a post shared on X, Rivers United stated that the coach was employed because he has demonstrated his ability to lead teams to success.
According to the post, “Finidi brings a wealth of experience and expertise to our team, having had a distinguished playing career spanning over fifteen years.
“As a coach, Finidi has demonstrated his ability to lead teams to success, and we are confident that he will bring his expertise and passion to our club. We are excited to have him on board and look forward to a successful tenure under his leadership.”
