Traffic congestion caused by heavy flooding

Heavy downpour causes flooding, traffic congestion

There was a heavy downpour from
early Wednesday morning, flooding many parts of Lagos.

The rains have made it difficult for commuters to move to work and other destinations.

Indeed, Lagosians barely woke up from sleep when the rain started to pour in torrents disrupting daily activities and flooding the roads.

Many people who defied the rain and left their homes with the hope of getting to their places of work were seen stranded at different bus stops while trying to commute in the city.

Motorists spent hours on the road coming through Alapere to the Third Mainland Bridge, commuters were also stranded at Berger Bus-stop in Lagos.

Iyana-Oworo-Olopomeji areas were flooded, causing long traffic that extended to Alapere ahead the Third Mainland Bridge,

Many trees fell around Airport U-turn in Oshodi, also making movements cumbersome.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) were, however, on hand to clear the fallen tree from the road to facilitate traffic flow and ensure public safety.

LASTMA’s prompt intervention helped vehicular movement, reducing potential congestion and hazards in the area.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, informed on his X handle, that a team from the ministry has been deployed to monitor and clear the flash flood at the Olopomeji section of Iyana Oworo.

He thanked motorists for their patience and understanding, noting that the road is now free from rainwater.
