A decision may have been taken by the Nigeria Football Foundation, NFF, over the successor of Finidi George as the head coach of national team, the Super Eagles.

Indeed, Finidi resigned from his job as managet after poor results with the team in their World Cup qualifiers.

The former international was assistant coach to Jose Peseiro at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations held in Cote d’Ivoire between January and February.

The Super Eagles held South Africa to a 1-1 draw in Uyo before being defeated 2-1 by Benin Republic in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, leaving Nigeria’s qualification for the World Cup under threat.

However, after a meeting with the Sports Minister, the NFF changed plans and decided to bring in a foreign Technical Adviser to be Finidi’s boss going forward. But Finidi claims he was not duly informed about the development, forcing him to send his resignation letter to the NFF secretariat.

According to a report by the Guardian, the NFF will unveil a new foreign coach for the Super Eagles before the end of the week.

Cameroon coach Marc Brys is reportedly one of the tacticians the NFF approached for the job.

Portuguese gaffer Antonio Conceicao and former Pep Guardiola’s right-hand man Domènec Torrent were among those the NFF considered before settling for Finidi.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have three points from their first four games and may need to win the remaining six games in the qualifying series to reach the next World Cup to be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
