NFF to appoint Technical Adviser for Super Eagles after poor results in World Cup qualifiers
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed it is appointing a Technical Adviser for the Super Eagles after their continuous poor results in World Cup qualifiers.
This means that coach George Finidi’sjob as manager of Nigeria’s senior team is on the line.
The NFF, rising from its executive committee meeting on Wednesday decided to appoint a Technical Adviser, noted that the move was important to stem the dismal outing of the Super Eagles in the last two 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
A communique after the meeting stated that the NFF pledged to put necessary measures in place to ensure a better-prepared squad ahead of the AFCON 2025 qualifiers in September this year and the resumption of the World Cup qualifiers in March 2025.
According to the communique, “The executive committee wholeheartedly apologized to Nigerians for the dismal output and subsequent very poor returns of the Senior Men National Team, Super Eagles, in four out of 10 matches in the ongoing qualification series for the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals, and pledged to work assiduously and put necessary measures in place to ensure a better-prepared squad ahead of the AFCON 2025 qualifiers in September this year and the resumption of the World Cup qualifiers in March 2025.”
Following the last two matches which saw the Super Eagles hold Bafana Bafana to a 1-1 draw at home and lost 2-1 to the Cheetahs, the NFF will employ a Technical Adviser for the Super Eagles in the coming weeks ahead of the AFCON qualifiers.
“Further to the above, the executive committee resolved to employ an expatriate Technical Adviser for the Super Eagles in the coming weeks, ahead of the AFCON qualifiers and the remaining FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.”
