FG unveils comprehensive health policy approach
The Federal Government has unveiled a comprehensive health policy approach to ensure service delivery in Nigeria.
Dr. Salma Ibrahim Anas, the Special Adviser to the President on Health, disclosed this during a media briefing on President Bola Tinubu‘s “Renewed Hope” agenda for health.
Dr. Anas highlighted the Federal Government’s role in shaping health policies, coordinating efforts, and harmonizing practices to achieve a unified national health agenda.
She reiterared the Federal Government’s mandate to mentor and create strategic directions for states to follow, ensuring alignment with global standards.
According to her, the proactive stance of the government in bridging gaps in the healthcare sector, particularly through initiatives like the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCF), is designed to catalyze state-level health projects.
The Federal Government mobilizes resources, including 1% of the consolidated revenue fund, to support and empower states in delivering on healthcare promises, she said.
Last year, a significant compact was signed by President Tinubu and all state governors, committing to prioritize health and ensure seamless integration of health policies across all levels of government.
This compact aligns priorities and drives towards improved health outcomes for every Nigerian.
Dr Anas emphasized the importance of the collaborative framework between the Federal and State Governments, adding that it is crucial for the success of nationwide health initiatives.
”One of the notable achievements of this collaboration is the increase in resources allocated to healthcare, including the mobilization of the BHCF.
”These resources encompass financial support, technical assistance, capacity building, and strategic guidance aimed at strengthening state health systems.
”The Federal Government dedicates resources to fill critical gaps, catalyzing states to enhance their healthcare delivery systems,” she noted.
Dr Anas pointed out that the impact of the efforts is already visible in various states, with improved health indicators due to better resource allocation and strategic direction from the Federal Government.
She stressed the importance of continuous collaboration and the need for states to take active ownership of health initiatives to achieve collective goals.
Dr Anas reaffirmed the commitment to advancing the health and well-being of every Nigerian through collaborative efforts with state governments.
”The Federal Government’s strategic health vision aims to create tangible health improvements, ensuring a healthier and more resilient nation.
”The ongoing work requires a sustained effort from all stakeholders to achieve a thriving healthcare system for all Nigerians,” she stated.
