The program aims to benefit 70,000 residents in the state, providing essential surgical procedures at no cost to the beneficiaries.

At the enrollment centre on Monday, the Executive Secretary of Ogun State Health Insurance Agency, Dr Afolabi Dosunmu, outlined the simplicity of the scheme’s modalities.

”Residents with surgical needs can visit any of the general hospitals in the state to enrol in the insurance scheme.

”Qualified doctors will assess the individuals to determine if surgery is required, and if so, the procedure will be performed,” he said.

Dr Dosunmu further detailed the categories of individuals eligible for the surgeries, explaining that pregnant women, market women, and poor individuals in the state are among the targeted beneficiaries.

”From the 12th week until delivery, pregnant women will receive care, and the child will enjoy free medical services for up to six months after birth.

”The Governor has mandated the state’s health sector to enrol 70,000 people, distributing them into specific groups.

”This includes 20,000 pregnant women, 20,000 market women, and 30,000 individuals facing economic hardship in the state,” he stated.

Dr Dosunmu emphasized the initiative’s role as a palliative measure to cushion the effects of the country’s challenging economic situation.

One of the beneficiaries, Akinola Olusola, a retired head teacher, expressed joy at the program, praising its positive impact and describing it as a valuable initiative in these challenging times.
