No price too big sacrifice for peace, Fubara explains deal with Wike

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has explained why he signed the eight-point peace deal with his estranged predecessor, Nyesome Wike, the current Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Minister.

Fubara, who spoke on Tuesday, December 19, at the 3rd Convocation and 6th Founders Day ceremonies of the PAMO University of Medical Sciences in Iriebe Town, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, said nothing is big enough to be sacrificed for the peace of the state.

On Monday, Fubara signed an eight-point peace deal with Wike in Abuja superintended by President Bola Tinubu and other Rivers State stakeholders, including former Governor Peter Odili.

Fubara stressed his commitment to ensuring peace in the state and among the people to foster development.

“There is no price that will be too big to pay to ensure that peace prevails,” he maintained.

Fubara assured that he was prepared to continue to pay the necessary price that would guarantee peace.

Governor Fubara said he was committed to providing quality and affordable education in Rivers State.

He also assured that providing a quality education system and affordable public healthcare services remained two vital priorities of his administration.

The governor disclosed that some progress has been made, adding that a lot needed to be achieved in terms of collective aspirations to have access to quality education and healthcare for the state’s people.

The governor commended the giant stride made by PAMO University in the last six years.

The institution, founded by the former governor of the state, Peter Odili, has, according to the governor, become the most outstanding private institution in Nigeria.

Earlier, on Monday, President Tinubu, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, and Governor Fubara sealed the eight-point peace resolution.

The president said all impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara should be dropped, while the governor agreed to drop all cases instituted against Wike’s camp.

Full list of politicians who signed peace deal to end Rivers State’s crisis apart from President Tinubu, Fubara and Wike, included Vice President Kashim Shettima, the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, a former governor of Rivers State, Peter Odili, and the chairpersons of the PDP and the APC in Rivers State.
