FG Commits to reducing infant mortality rate

The Federal Government through the Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye has urged health practitioners, midwives, and others in the country to be more concerned about eradicating infant deaths experienced at births and infancy stages through enhanced patient care.

The Women’s Affairs Minister spoke when she received the President of the Medical Women Association of Nigeria [MWAN] Proff. Mrs.Rosemary Ogu, in her office in Abuja.

A statement by the Ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Grace Njoku, quoted the minister as saying there is a need to work with the association in providing healthcare items, advocacy and tireless work to assist and better the health situations of women, infants and the vulnerable ones.

She added that sustainable health care would drastically reduce the number of infant mortality levels and improve the socio-economic status of the country.

The Minister said she is willing to collaborate with other health agencies, associations and stakeholders in its assignment.

Earlier, the Medical Women Association of Nigeria [MWAN] president had called on the Minister to work hand in hand with the Ministry in achieving its Renewed Hope Agenda of Tinubu’s administration.
