Gov Fubara summons emergency Exco meeting after 27 Rivers Assemblymen defect to APC
Governor Sim Fubara is said to have summoned an emergency Executive Council meeting following a defection by 27 Rivers State House of Assembly members from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defection was announced by assembly members loyal to FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike on Monday, sending shockwaves through the entire state and nationwide.
Governor Fubara’s response to convene the emergency Executive Council meeting was an indication of the desperate situation and the need for immediate action in the state political structure.
The mass defection has already caused speculation about the next move of the defecting lawmakers who had moved towards impeachment of the governor.
Indeed, the other lawmakers elected on the platforms of the PDP and the Social Democratic Party, SDP, had declared support for Governor Fubara.
