CSU Saga: Save Nigeria needless embarrassment, Peter Obi tells Tinubu
The Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has finally reacted to the ongoing controversies surrounding the certificate saga of President Bola Tinubu.
Obi, who addressed a press conference in Abuja, on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, insisted that it was necessary for Tinubu to speak up on the issues and save Nigeria needless international embarrassment regarding his academic records.
Indeed, there has been serious controversies about the authenticity of Tinubu’s certificate from Chicago State University.
Obi, who stressed why Tinubu must address the issue, said this will finally address the alleged forgery scandal involving President Tinubu.
Obi enumerated a series of factors that must be considered for Tinubu to be vindicated and for the reputation of Nigeria to be restored.
The LP presidential candidate emphasised that the reputation of Nigeria in the international community was badly affected and the need for Tinubu to clear himself and reduce unnecessary attention.
At the conference, Obi said the reputation of Nigeria on the global scene had been tarnished due to the ongoing scandal surrounding the president.
He stated that Nigerians are now being stereotyped by their international counterparts.
He also claimed Nigerians living as immigrants in other parts of the world might suffer the consequences.
According to him, “Tinubu’s many lingering identity question marks has further worsened Nigeria’s less-than-glorious image internationally.
“Uninformed outsiders now see every other Nigerian as a potential fraudster, certain forger, or identity thief.
“The controversy is unnecessary, just as the implicit global embarrassment could have been avoided.”
Obi asked Tinubu to save himself from unnecessary attention and clear the air on the controversies surrounding his identity and name.
The ex-Anambra governor told Tinubu to “let the world know his name, nationality, place of birth, his parentage, the primary and secondary schools he attended with dates as well as the actual universities he attended and certificates obtained.
“In his (Tinubu) present capacity as a leader of a nation of over 200m Nigerians, his true identity is a matter of grave national and international interest.
“The people deserve to know for a certainty the true identity of their leader, and this overrides whatever rights he may have to personal privacy.”
