Tinubu replaces El-Rufai with Abbas as ministerial nominee, requests Senate’s confirmation of two others

A former Secretary to the Kaduna State Government, Balaraba Abbas, has been appointed by President Bola Tinubu as a ministerial nominee to replace former governor Nasir el Rufai.
A letter read by the Senate President Godswill Akpabio at the plenary on Tuesday, October 3, also requested the lawmakers to confirm to other nominees: Jamila Bio Ibrahim from Kwara State and Ayodele Olawande from Ondo State.
A statement issued by President Tinubu’s spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, on Sunday, September 17, disclosed that President Tinubu nominated and requested the confirmation of the three nominees.
The Senate had declined El-Rufai’s confirmation on Monday, August 7.
The Senate also refused to confirm two other nominees – Stella Okotete from Delta State, and Abubakar Danladi from Taraba State.
El-Rufai’s rejection followed the concern a senator, Sunday Karimi from Kogi West, raised over a “serious petition” against him.
The Senate has confirmed 45 out of 48 ministers nominated by Tinubu so far.
Reports, however, stated that Abbas will superintend over the Ministry of Environment retained by Tinubu for Kaduna State.
