FG dismisses report Tinubu will announce new minimum wage on Oct 1

A report that President Tinubu would announce new wage for workers during his October 1 Independence Day speech has been dismissed as false and untrue by the Ministry of Labour.
A statement by the Director of Press and Public Relations in the Ministry of Labour said on Wednesday in Abuja.
The statement said, “The attention of the Ministry of Labour and Employment has been drawn to reports circulating online that the President will announce wage awards and palliatives to workers during his October 1st Independence Day speech.
“The report which is said to have emanated from a purported “interview” with the Director of Information at the Ministry also claimed that a last minute meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday between Federal Government and Labour to avert the proposed strike.
“We wish to categorically state that the report is false and misleading as at no time did the Director of Information make such disclosure.”
The Director said members of the public should ignore the report as it is a total fabrication of an interview by the reporter to suit the narrative of the interests best-known to the newspaper.
“For the benefit of doubt, it is important to stress that the Director of Information at the Ministry of Labour does not speak for the President nor is he involved in writing his speech to warrant him making any categorical statement on its content.
“If and when the Minister schedules a meeting with Labour, the public will be adequately notified through verified channels.
“The said newspaper is advised to retract the story and maintain professionalism in its reportage to avoid misleading the public,” the statement said.
The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Kaduna State is set to deliver its judgment via Zoom today.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the courtroom has been set up with a provision for transmission of the judgment proceeding via Zoom.
The petition was brought before the tribunal by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Isah Mohammed Ashiru, against the election of Uba Sani of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as Governor.
There is also tight security at the premises of Kaduna State High Court, Kawo Kaduna, where the tribunal sits.
The tribunal is expected to decide whether or not to uphold the election of Uba Sani as Governor.
Recall that a similar setting took place last Wednesday where the governorship election petition tribunal in Kano sacked Abba Yusuf, candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), as governor of the state.
The tribunal, in its judgement delivered via Zoom, also affirmed Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the duly elected governor of Kano.
