Let us repair Nigeria’s moribund refineries, female engineers throw challenge to Tinubu
The Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) has thrown a challenge to President Bola Tinubu to allow female engineers fix the country’s non-functional refineries.
The newly-elected APWEN chairperson, Lagos chapter, Mrs Atinuke Owolabi, with President Tinubu on Saturday, August 19, to give the women engineers to proof themselves.
Her appeal is against the background of complete importation of the nation’s local oil use which necessitated on the insistence of Nigerians that the Federal Government must repair the three refineries in PortHarcourt, Warri and Kaduna.
She assured the president that female engineers spread across the various arms of the profession could fix the moribund refineries within a year.
“All women engineers are ready to come together and see how we can proffer solutions, ensure we revamp these refineries”, she announced.
Nigeria depends almost solely on the importation of fuel for local consumption.
This has proved a great challenge to government in the face of poor foreign exchange earnings, especially the dollar which has pushed the Naira to over N700 to a dollar.
