UNILAG VC seeks more cllaboration between varsities, industries

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, is seeking the collaboration of industries and the university, asking for more investments so that the students can thrive.

The Vice Chancellor spoke at the inauguration of the university’s Faculty of Engineering vertical extention office floors at weekend.

The office floors were donated by alumnus of the university
and Group Managing Director Geoplex Drillte Limited, Wole Ogunsanya, who is a member of Faculty of Engineering extension Alumni Association (UNILAGFEAA).

Speaking at the programme, Ogunsola explained that such move will ensure that the faculty is in tune with happenings in the industry.

According to her, “we cannot do that if we don’t have engagements with our stakeholders and alumni, which is very critical. For us to stay relevant, it is clear that if we are developing our curriculum , the people we are developing that curriculum for, must be a part of that conversation. We must know what they need and the kind of skills they require.”

The VC who commissioned the project, stressed the need for every faculty to have a technical advisory board, noting that it is the only way to also add value to what is going on in the industry.

“We cannot have an education curriculum that is static and the world is changing so rapidly. For you to know what is needed, we must have constant conversation.”

She also thanked the organisation for employing its students, adding that one of the ways universities pride themselves, is how employable the students are.

“When we have the alumni assisting us to employ the students, it adds more value to the quality of students we can bring in, because people want to go to where their future is facilitated. So if more alumni are employing our students, that will be great, “ the VC stated.

She thanked the organisation for its efforts and the alumni for its continuous engagement.

The Managing Director, Geoplex Drillteq Limited, Wole Ogunsanya explained that the biggest gift the alumni can give to the faculty is to translate some of the research that has been carried out into products and services that students can benefit from, even in the next 50 years.

The project, he noted, is aimed at giving back and improving the quality of education for the students.
