President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been asked to use his position as ECOWAS Chairman to stop the coup d’etat against President Mohamed Bazoum of Niger Republic

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, who stated this, also asked President Tinubu to use his position to avert a military government in the country and return it to civil rule.

In a statement by his media aide, Alli Ibraheem, on Thursday, Oba Akanbi also suggested a harmonised command of Africa’s military forces to ensure that the coup d’etat in Niger didn’t survive.

“Such a move will strengthen Africa’s democracy and return sanity to civilian government in the continent,” he said.

The Osun monarch noted that for democracy to be strengthened in Africa, the promotion of democratic system of government devoid of military incursion and interference was necessary.

According to him, “Being the ECOWAS Chairman and President of Nigeria, adjudged to be the giant of Africa, no coup must survive under your watch as ECOWAS Chairman. External authorities and forces have to be mobilized to grow Africa democracy and ensure sanity.

“Defending democracy is the primary task of ECOWAS authority. I’m convinced Tinubu will lead the body constructively by fortifying the system in favour of democracy. Democracy will survive in Africa.”

He called on President Tinubu to show strength and prove himself beyond expectation in his new office as the ECOWAS boss.
