A former Member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Sami Muhammad Takori, has expressed disagreement with the current moves to influence the choice of the leadership of the 10th National Assembly.

He described as bad the attempt by those he called undemocratic forces to suppress the independence of the National Assembly through imposition of leadership.

A press statement by Takori called for the intervention of the International Community and the chairman of the peace committee, Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, to defend the parliament.

“It is not my desire to describe my county as a state where there is no rule of law. Since the beginning of the 4th Republic, there have been many ungodly, undemocratic, indecent, dishonest, unconstitutional attitudes”, he added.

The former federal lawmaker stressed that the attempt to impose leadership on the parliament was clearly a misuse of power and dictatorship in democracy.

He appealed for a timely intervention in the matter as a way of protecting and promoting democratic values in the system.
