At least 13 people have been reported killed in Karim-Lamido Local Government Council of Taraba State.

The crisis was said to have erupted as a result of the creation of chiefdom, leading to the burning of several houses in one of the communities.

Apart from number of casualties and destruction of property, several people, majority of whom are women and children, have also been displaced.

The state police command said “only two casualties were recorded.”

The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Abdullahi Usman, who confirmed this on Saturday, said three units of mobile policemen have been drafted to the areas.

Apart from the policemen, several soldiers, according to him, have been deployed to the council.

The state governor recently created nine additional chiefdoms across the state, a development which has continued to cause tensions in the state.
