Suspected Cultists Invade Ilorin, One Dead, Three Injured

One person was said to have died and three others injured in an attack by suspected rival cultists in the Omoda area of Ilorin metropolis, Kwara State capital, on Sunday.
The suspected cultists invaded the area from Gambari, another area of the metropolis, amid sporadic gunshots.
It could not be confirmed if the victim, identified as Toheeb of Ile Alagbede compound, Ajikobi area of Ilorin, was a member of any cult group.
Sources said the attack was launched at about 2pm, but the spokesman of the state police command, Okasanmi Ajayi, denied knowledge of the incident.
According to him, “No incident of that nature had been reported. No report of the case is made in any of our police stations. Efforts to get information about the incident proved abortive please.”
The incident is said to have caused fears to residents in the area, who believed that was not the end of the cultists’ war.
Consequently, the residents are calling on the government and security agencies to take proactive measures to curtail the activities of cultists in the state.
It is not the first time that cult-related violence has occurred in Kwara State. In recent years, there have been several cases of clashes between rival cult groups in different parts of the state.
