Redeploy officers in Delta, says rights group, after cult killings in Sapele

The Secretary of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, CDHR, Delta State Branch, Israel Joe, has asked the state Commissioner of Police to relocate policemen who have serve up to three years in Sapele Division.

He said this would stem the condemnable recent cult killings in Sapele, Delta State.

A statement by the human rights body condemned the death of one person shot dead in front of his compound in Mosogar and another abducted in the same community.

He said, “The killings in Sapele Delta State are getting out of hand.”

“Yesterday, four persons were k¡lled and today the lives of another four persons have been taken.

“We cannot live in a society where human lives are more common compared to that of chickens.

“How do these cultists and ‘pick-up’ people feel ending the lives they never created? It is pitiable that the government never took proactive steps about the killings of previous weeks which gave them the guts, temerity and impetus to continue unabated.”

Joe insisted that the state CP Ari Muhammed Ali should ensure the immediate transfer of policemen who have served or stayed more than three to five years out of the Sapele Police Division.

He said the policemen i redeployed, “They are now used to the boys tipping them that when they misbehave and no reasonable actions are taken.

“We must open up a conversation about this. We must talk about it and should interrogate the very causes of eliminating it.”
